The diet industry is worth $61 billion in the United States. The Center for Disease Control reports that 33% of adults are obese while 10 million individuals suffer from an eating disorder. Various studies have reported that the majority of women are not satisfied with their physical appearance. Whether it is overeating or undereating, it cannot be overstated that we have created a daily context for ourselves in which having a healthy relationship with food is a struggle.
If you struggle with food issues, I hope that these truth statements will encourage you.
Don’t toil for food that spoils.
John 6:27
Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.
God bears the burden of my struggle with food.
Psalm 68:19

I don’t need to overeat because God is my portion.
Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
I will pause before eating.
Lamentations 3:24

God defines my portion—not me.
Psalm 16:5-6
LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
God’s grace is sufficient enough. I don’t need to rely on my will power.
2 Corinthians 12:5
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
God’s food and drink is more delightful than anything I could choose for myself.
Psalm 36:7-9
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.
God fulfills my desire for food with His presence.
Psalm 63:5
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
